At Indie OpenPhone is one of our preferred VOIP solutions for Loan Officers looking to bring automation and scale to their sales and origination process. Below are some best practices for LOs that are new to the platform.

1. Create your OpenPhone Account

To create your OpenPhone account visit - https://www.openphone.com/ - and click Try for Free in top right. Below is a short video showing the information you will need to open your account.

2. Choose a New Number or Port an Existing Number

Included with your OpenPhone account is a brand new number you can use. If you don’t have a dedicated business line we suggest keeping this as it can help with automation and integrations that are not available on personal lines. You can always continue to use your personal line primarily but keep the business line for outbound calls you want to to take notes on.

If you already have a business line and would like to port it over that is possible. Below is a good guide from OpenPhone on how to do so, but you can also get started directly in the app here (click port number to get started). Note: do not cancel your other service until you have successfully ported it over.

3. Connecting Your Open Phone to Indie

Connecting your OpenPhone to Indie is simple and takes 1-2min.

To connect your OpenPhone you will need to populate the API Key and Phone Number fields in your Settings and enable call recording & transcription.

2A. Generate an API Key

To create an API Key, login to your OpenPhone account and click Settings > API > “Generate API Key”. You will be asked to name the key but this is purely for your tracking; we suggest “Indie_Mortgage”.

Copy this number to your clipboard and paste it into the API Key field in your settings.
